Gina Higgins has spent her 25+ years as an educator honing her pedagogy, exploring her passions, and teaching and learning from students of all different backgrounds. She started her teaching career in New Orleans, where she first began working in independent schools. She continued working at independent schools when she moved to Seattle, and spent the bulk of her career to date there. Her perspective continued to widen when she made the move abroad. She taught and worked as an administrator in China and Indonesia for six years. When she returned to the U.S., she settled down at an independent school in southern Oregon. Though she only intended to stay for a year or two, she ended up developing a middle school humanities curriculum, hosting Indonesian exchange students, planning and leading academic trips, and implementing DEI projects. She is looking forward to bringing her myriad experiences with her to The East Bay School for Boys, where she hopes to continue to make her classroom an inclusive, empathetic place where students will have their preconceptions challenged and will learn to think critically and use their voice for themselves and others.
