Advisory/ Social Emotional Learning

The advisory program is at the core of the EBS experience. This daily period provides students a small group environment in which to develop relationships with one another and with an adult advocate, promoting positive school climate. Drawing from the school's four guiding pillars (Life, Prep, Work, and Self), the advisory program promotes opportunities for social-emotional development and academic support.

The advisory program is built around three approaches to discovery:

  • A social/emotional and academic development curriculum designed by faculty and presented in ways consistent with the mission and pedagogy of the school;

  • A space and time in which students can bring up relevant issues in a small group setting; and

  • Opportunities for advisors and advisees to partner and consult on individual matters.

The program is predicated on the belief that every student should build at least one close relationship with an adult at school and that every student needs to actively engage in self-advocacy.
