Our Story
The East Bay School was founded in 2010 as an all-boys school. As we celebrate our 15th year, we have opened admissions to students of all genders. The decision to expand to serving students of all genders was both a big decision and a natural evolution — big because it broadens our focus on educating boy-identified students to all students. And a natural evolution because allowing access to all genders simply expands our mission to be a school that helps students cultivate their intellectual, physical, and emotional selves to become engaged, thoughtful, courageous, and justice-minded adults.
While we have always been a progressive school, our move to break down the gender binary re-inscribes our revolutionary approach to middle school, recognizing the lived experiences of our students. Our brain-based approach to education maximizes students’ energy, attention and capacity to lead with their best selves on a daily basis.
Our non-profit independent school is led by committed faculty and staff whose “love space” honors each child’s unique needs and contributions to our community. We welcome your family to contact us to learn more about our innovative programming for grades 6-8.
